Readersadvisoronline Blog

I'm finishing the old year and starting the new year by looking at stacked up email and links. One terrific Readers Advisor resource I've found is the Readersadvisoronline.com blog. The blog started in June 2007 and has lots of information and tips.

The Reader's Advisor Online is available by subscription only. But the RAO Blog is free at http://www.readersadvisoronline.com! Published by Libraries Unlimited and Greenwood Publishing Group, the blog features articles by RA experts, news alerts, lists, and links. If you follow a link from the RAO Blog to the Reader's Advisor Online, be aware that you must be a registered user to access the full content of the Reader's Advisor Online.

"We hope it will be the first place reader's advisors will go on Monday mornings as they prepare to serve their patrons in the coming week, and at the start of each shift for a quick update of what's happening in the world of books," says Blog editor Cindy Orr of Cleveland Public Library. "It's intended to function as both a time-saving bird's eye view of essential news for reader's advisors, and a community for exploring relevant RA issues."

The RAO blog provides a tremendous amount of information and inspiration. Contributors include Diana Tixier Herald and Sarah Stats Cord.

Dies the Fire by S.M. Stirling

I've enjoyed Dies the Fire by S.M. Stirling and am looking forward to reading Meeting at Corvallis, the 3rd in the trilogy. One day there is a flash and everything technological changes. Planes fall, electricity fails, gunpowder no longer functions 'as designed.' After the catastrophe, the survivors need to reconstruct their society around new skills and structures. Three groups find their own ways to survive. For other books by S.M. Stirling, check series titles and order in the What's Next Database http://ww2.kdl.org/libcat/WhatsNextNEW.asp or Stirling's website: http://www.smstirling.com/
